R. Jamila Harris earned a B.A. in Political Science from Spelman College in Atlanta, Georgia (1977), a Diplome from the Institute of International Politics La Sorbonne, University of Paris, France, and completed graduate studies in Public and Business Administration at Atlanta University and Georgia State University. She speaks fluent French, some Russian and Spanish.
Broker and Owner of Eagle Realty, Harris was originally licensed in 1982 in Colorado after attending Jones Real Estate School. She became a member of the National Association of Realtors, and during the subsequent years grew from a 50-50% Sales Associate to a 100% Associate at REMAX. She relocated from Colorado in good standing as evidenced by the Good Standing Letter from the Colorado Real Estate Commission documenting an unblemished record as a Sales Associate.
Harris’s clientele from 1983-1985 included corporations such as Adolph Coors Company, for which she handled sales of homes of corporate employees relocated to other markets. Jamila sold residential homes, FHA and VA foreclosures and four-plex rental housing units. Harris also wrote an award-winning real estate column that was published monthly in Odyssey West Magazine, which was distributed throughout the Midwest and Southwest.
Harris earned her Broker’s License in 2008, and established Eagle Realty in the U.S. Virgin Islands many years after her original real estate career began. She is a member in Good Standing of the VI Territorial Association of Realtors, St. Croix Board of Realtors and the National Association of Realtors. Harris conducts research to secure documentation to resolve property disputes and clear title issues, and has appeared as an expert witness in real estate cases heard in courts of jurisdiction in the U.S. Virgin Islands. Eagle Realty also assists Relocation customers seeking rental properties in prime locations in St. Thomas and St. Croix.
Founding Director of the Dow Jones-Spelman College Entrepreneurial Center and Kids-N- Business, teaching children 5-17 years of age to start and operate businesses, Harris is author of Create Income With or Without a Job and How to Make BIG $MONEY$ with Your Small Business.
Harris created and anchored the Atlanta Minority Enterprise Report, that launched MediaOne TV in Atlanta. Jamila Harris was Executive Producer of radio talk show which aired weekly on the former NPR Affiliate Radio Station of the Virgin Islands from 2008-2016. Topics typically included estate planning, finances and real estate. Her television and radio broadcasts are award-winning.
Harris won the U.S. Dept of Commerce Minority Business Advocate of the Year Award in 1996, and the U.S. Small Business Administration Media Advocate of the Year Award in 1999 for the positive impact of the content of the broadcasts on the business community and listening audiences.
